ABOUT US
Who are we?
We are a charity organization based in Neervely, Jaffna, Northern Sri Lanka. Established in 2020, to preserve the country’s natural greenery and ecosystem which were neglected or destroyed, during the civil war.
Our Aim
Green Layer’s aim is to plant all types of trees to protect the soil, provide natural shade, bring back the fruit trees lost, attract birds and bees and to rectify the imbalance caused in the last decades.
Our Goal
Originally our goal was to plant 10,000 trees but we’ve exceeded this goal by planting more than 45,000 trees in December 2023. Now we have a goal of planting 100,000 trees by the end of 2025. We have plans to continue this work as long as possible and to expand wherever possible.
Our Work
Run by a small team of volunteers, we grow some of our trees in our own farms and buy from other nurseries. We operate purely from donations coming from likeminded people locally and mainly, from the diaspora who lives all over the world. We use paid staff to transport and plant most of our projects.
Our Needs
We need more volunteers, and donors to continue this essential work to improve our country’s environment and to improve the lives of our people. We will greatly appreciate your help in any form or shape. We want more people to join our team and help to improve our environment.
How are people helping at present?
Many people are requesting us to plant trees on their Birthdays, Anniversaries, to remember their family members and many other occasions. If you also want to do this, please do contact us. We also welcome new ideas in this matter.
